Northern Scarlet Snake- (Cemophora coccinea copei) Texas Threatened Reptile
According to iNaturalist Guides, the Northern Scarlet snake (Cemophora coccinea copei)
"... prefer soft, sandy or loamy soils for burrowing... and are found from New Jersey, along the Atlantic Coast to Florida, and west to Texas and Oklahoma".
This next quote gets me thinking about habitat loss:
"(They are) are rarely encountered animals, found mainly in sandy thickets... Occasionally scarlet snakes are dug up from as deep as 6 ft during the construction of foundations or ditches for pipelines."
